Wilson Garden Wonder at the Anderson Twp. Independence Day Parade 2010

This was my first 4th of July parade ever and I had a lot of fun!

Thanks to Diana Reynolds and her family, Anderson Twp., the school principal Ann Roberts, Wilson Wild Cat - the school mascot - and Wilson families we were able to have our own float in the Anderson Twp Independence Day Parade.

Our theme was support our school garden, recycle and "go green". We decorated our float accordingly with material from the parade of the past year, a scarecrow mostly made with recycled material which will be used in the school garden and a recycling bin.

Instead of candies we distributed flyers about our garden, recycling and other "green" tips provided by Ohio EPA and Hamilton County Solid Waste Management District and a box of paper clips made out of recycled material. All the flyers were printed on recycled paper.

Kids distributed the flyers to the crowd along the road, adults collected plastic bottles and aluminum cans from the crowd along the parade path.

We collected 4 big bags or plastic bottles and cans that will be spared from sitting 100 or more years in the landfill and will instead be recycled.

We also made possible in collaboration with Anderson Twp., Rumpke and Hamilton County Solid Waste Management District the presence of recycling bins all along the parade path and at the post parade event at the Anderson Town Center.
